Keeping Fit Belly Dancing Style

The Pembrokeshire Times & Diary--01st of February 2004

Belly dancing is now the new fun way to keep fit, and now ladies in Pembrokeshire can have a go at this expressive and unusual from of exercise thanks to classes being run by a very experienced tutor. Guinevere Clark has been belly dancing for 10 years and began teaching the ancient art over a year ago. Guinevere told the Pembrokehsire Times :

"Belly Dancing is not only great fun, but it is energising and a great release. It"s also a great deal more interesting than lying on a toning table! Belly Dancing isolates particular muscle groups and strengthens those muscles...The exercise involves constantly shifting the body weight from one side to another, so there is no starin on one particular part of the body." It is this that Guinevere believes accounts for its popularity amongst all ages. "I have ladies as young as seven right up to to 80 years old" she said, "and they all have a good time."

Guinevere has recently devised a course in belly dancing that is currently being accredited by The Open College Network to enable a qualification to be gained on completion of the course. Guinevere hopes that this will be particularly useful to those who wish to go into the peforming arts or even amateur dramatics. This Spring will see the fruition of "The Shimmy Shop" in Quay St, Haverfordwest. The Shimmy Shop will sell belly dancing costumes, jewellery and accessories, as well as music and videos.

Guinevere also provides a belly-gram service, which she emphasises is a strictly "clothes on" service and very popular for birthdays and weddings."
